XFM To Launch Interactive Radio Programming

While commercial radio on our shores continues to go down the toilet, the UK’s XFM has consistently been an interesting source of new music. The alternative rock station has recently dropped their afternoon airstaff, replacing control of that particular daypart into the hands of their listeners.

The new block of programming, named Xu, will take place Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, bringing in a whole new level of interactivity to the station’s listeners. Fans will be allowed to access the station’s music library via a new microsite, where they will let you build a playlist, vote for your favorite songs and even record messages that could go out over the air.

In a time where the iPod and satellite radio has become a threat to traditional broadcasters, could interactivity of this level work in the US? We’re curious to see how this experiment works when it launches on May 29.
