Exclusive - Photos From The Upcoming Gorillaz Opera

A very generous friend of The Tripwire hooked us up with a few photos taken from rehearsals of the upcoming Gorillaz opera, Monkey: Journey To The West. These are some pretty rad behind the scenes shots of the martial artists who are part the latest project from Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. The official poster is also complete, which we’ll post below the images.

Damon and Jamie recently allowed BBC One to film a documentary on the creation of Monkey. This seventy-five minute film will air on July 4th overseas, but hopefully we’ll get a chance to view it via BBC America at some point. There is a Quicktime clip taken from the documentary posted on the official Gorillaz fansite. It gives a pretty cool bit of insight on the ideas behind the creation of this opera.

For our friends over in the UK, Monkey will run from June 28 to July 7 as part of the Manchester International Festival.
