Las Manitas Update

For all of our readers who have attended SXSW, or have read our coverage from years past, you are well aware of our obsession with the delicious awesomeness of Las Manitas. There is something simply magical about their breakfast tacos that seem to instantly cure hangovers. We’ve been following the closing and/or relocation of this staple of Austin cuisine for over a year now, and its future is still in jeopardy.


Upon moving to Austin, we started hearing grumblings from some locals over the city’s proposed $750,000 forgiveable loan to help Las Manitas relocate. Lidia and Cynthia Perez, the owners of this fine establishment, have now opted to pass on the city’s offer. Why? According to Austinist, their reasons are quite understandable. They said: “This loan has become way too complicated and caught up in controversy, politics and misunderstandings.”

So now what? At this point, we have no clue. As the Las Manitas saga continues, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
