Believe It Or Not, SXSW Wristbands Did NOT Sell Out

Well this is interesting. It seems that of the 4,000 wristbands (sold at $139 a pop), only approximately 3,500 were sold. This means that everybody who entered the wristband lottery, which was new for this year, got ‘em. Now, before we go any further, we should let you know that the lottery closed this morning at 9am.

The idea behind this new lottery system was to prevent scalpers and ticket brokers from getting their hands on the wristbands, which are intended to help Austin-area music fans gain entry into SXSW events. Of course, as those of us who have attended the festival over the past several years know, wristbands won’t get you into many shows, as so many venues quickly reach capacity with the badge holders receiving priority on admission.

So what about those 500 remaining wristbands? According to Austin360, they will be bumped up to $180 and will go on sale a “couple of days” before March 12. So for our out-of-town friends coming to the great city of Austin, you just MIGHT be able to snag a wristband. That is, if you really want one. Once more information pops up on the sale of the remaining wristbands, we’ll send it your way.
