Franz Ferdinand Making Progress On New Album

If you’ve been itching for some new music from Franz Ferdinand, you won’t have to wait tooooo much longer. After taking a bit of a break, the lads are back in action, working on their third album.

British radio station XFM caught up with frontman Alex Kapranos at the NME Awards, during which he revealed that their upcoming single will most likely be “What She Came For.” They are currently 1/3 of the way through recording their new album, so there is a tiny chance that we could see a release before the end of 2008.

As for the sound of the new tunes, Kapranos explained that they have roots in mid ’60s soul and Ethiopian compilations. He added: “We’re one of these bands that are always gonna sound the same no matter what we do, but there are other influences there. I guess the drums are a little different, Paul has been listening to a lot of African stuff so that’s gonna come through.”

They are also planning on performing at a few festivals this summer, so perhaps we’ll get a preview of the new material soon.
