Levi’s/FADER Fort – Joe Lean & Jing Jang Jong

Day Two of the Levi’s/FADER Fort has started off great, The Ting Tings managed an all out assault in warming up our crowd for Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong. The appropriately quirky title was all that was needed in introduction as the Jing Jang Jong blasted their way through surf/retro rock. If it wasn’t apparent these guys are from the UK by their thick accents, it became so when they ripped into a few hits off of “their myspace.” Jumping across the stage, shedding offhand comments about the Texas heat, and sweating through their bobs, Joe & the JJJ kept up a steady clap amongst everyone here.

Despite having never seen or heard them before, there was a sense of familiarity. I wasn’t sure if it was the straight up retro Brit Rock they were showcasing, or the actual members of the Jong. A quick search later and here I am certain I’ve seen them before… Joe Lean actually made an appearance at last year’s Fort, drumming for that beautiful Brit trio, The Pipettes. Guitarist Tommy D also happens to be a brother of one of the Pipettes. So there you go, quirky, retro Brit Pop is a family affair at this year’s Fort. Keep it coming please.

Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong are apparently hard at work on a new album and have released the latest single, Lonely Buoy, on March 10th.
