Patti Smith And Kevin Shields Join Forces

Combining the talents of Patti Smith and Kevin Shields could potentially cause your CD player to melt, as that is simply too much greatness to be contained on one disc. The legendary Smith and My Bloody Valentine’s Shields will be releasing their double-disc set from their live performance of The Coral Sea on July 11 via their own label imprint, PASK.

If you’re unfamiliar with The Coral Sea, it is Smith’s posthumous homage to her friend and photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and the title to her 1996 book. The recordings were made back in June 22, 2005 and September 12, 2006, during which Kevin Shields laid down a backdrop of guitars to Patti Smith’s spoken prose. It is a fascinating collaboration, and will definitely worth be picking up when it hits stores.
