Dan McCarthy aka McCarthy Trenching looks a bit like another Dan we’re quite fond of, but musically he’s worlds apart. This is none more apparent than on his newest video for the single “The Most Attractive Disguise.”
McCarthy Trenching is the project of Omaha based singer songwriter Dan McCarthy, who’s soft-spoken and straight-forward approach to music making reveals a simple honesty that it’s hard not to appreciate. The multi-instrumentalist has been heard in the past in places like Bright Eye’s “Cassadaga”, Maria Taylor’s “Lynn Teeter Flowers”, Cursive’s “Happy Hollow”, The Good Life’s “Album of the Year”, and Tilly and the Wall’s “Bottoms of Barrels” and “o” – and of course his 2007 self titled debut. His Team Love follow-up represents the result of many studio hours spent with people such as Steve Bartolomei (Mal Madrigal), Ben Brodin (Before the Toast and Tea), Stefanie Drootin (The Good Life, She & Him, Bright Eyes), Tim Jensen (The Golden Age), Pearl Lovejoy Boyd (Outlaw con Bandana), Ted Stevens (Cursive, Mayday), Orenda Fink (Azure Ray, Art in Manila) and Phillip “Too-Tall” ShaffartCalamity Drenching. A self described collection of songs about horse racing, the romance of cassette tapes (and losing that particular romance), piano practice, religious doubt, inclement weather, and Bar-B-Q, his sophomore effort is entitled Calamity Drenching and will be available this coming November.
The video for “…Disguise” is appropriately simple and endearing, showcasing his love of music, nature, beer and… well, that’s about it.
