Most of us had to work on the ever increasingly less important federal holiday that is Columbus Day. So, it’s a good thing school kids still have off, because they made up a majority of the people in attendance at this Sunday night show.

Coming together in honor of Fiasco’s latest release, Native Canadians, this late-night Sunday show in the heart of DIY Brooklyn feature some of the finest – if not loudest – the borough has to offer. With all of the bands playing on the floor, Turbosleaze and Cutter started the evening before making way for the percussive-noise explosion of Aa (Big A, little a).

I’m getting tired of having to put their name in parenthesis, because I feel everyone should know about this band and their great name, but what struck me the most about their performance had nothing to do with their sound. Noticeably missing was long-time member Nadav Havusha. I didn’t catch the name of the new guy, who filled in admirably as this was one of the most inspiring Aa shows I’ve seen in nearly a year, but I was saddened to see Nadav watching instead of playing.

Then came Fiasco. If you ever want to feel old, go to one of their shows. Like the band, most of their fans are still in highschool and despite my own age insecurities, it’s exciting to see the new breed of music enthusiasts brave it out on a Sunday to see their favorite hometown heroes.

To be honest, this was not one of their better shows; with constant interruptions, technical difficulties and a Blink 182 cover (a joke we assume). But it’s obvious from the number of flashes popping when they played and the instrumental proficiency of the band that they are one capable of great things. The crowd was eager to agree as well, causing many of the interruptions by repeatedly bumping into the trio, although neither the band or the crowd seemed to mind.
