On the list of classic combinations, right below “peanut butter and jelly,” you’ll find “punk rock and bowling.” Don’t believe us? Check out the line-up for the 11th Annual Punk Rock Bowling Tournament.
Hosted by the Stern Brothers of BYO Records and held at Sam’s Town Gambling Hall and Casino in Las Vegas since 1998, punk rock bands, labels, booking agents, clothing companies, fanzines and general punk enthusiasts have gathered annually for a weekend of rocking out and avoiding gutter balls. The three-day punk party never fails to bring out the big names, having featured in the past bands like NOFX, Alkaline Trio, The Bouncing Souls, 7 Seconds, The Dropkick Murphys and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, among others. Plus, as with any big music event of this kind, local promoters also put on smaller shows with up-and-comers in the punk scene.
This year’s shows feature The Casualties, Cockney Rejects and Manic Hispanic, who will each be headlining one night of the weekend with supporting acts to be announced when tickets go on sale Saturday. The Saturday gig is new this year for PRB. Currently new teams for the tournament are not being registered because of a high volume of returning teams, but keep tabs on the web site for more information on how you might be able to squeeze in a spare.
Tickets for each show ($16 for Friday and Saturday, $15 for Sunday) as well as three-day passes ($40) will be available starting this Saturday.
