In honor of Billy Corgan’s uncomfortable YouTube video moments, we’ve decided to make today’s Flashback Friday video all about breaking down the fourth wall. Considering this Spike Jonze classic was before YouTube or reality TV, it definitely speaks to the director’s innovation as well as his dance moves.
We doubt Mr. Jonze could pull off these moves today with people still wondering who he was, but what makes this video remarkable is the fact no one could have predicted the impact invading people’s privacy has played on our culture as a whole in the past decade. Making it’s debut in 1999, the video for “Praise You” stands as a testament to the visionary that Jonze is and how dancing to a fun song in public can rouse the emotions of both those who enjoy it and loathe it.
