Kele Okereke Sex Pistol Whipped?

Because letting sleeping dogs lie would just be too easy, Bloc Party lead singer Kele Okereke has piped up about his run-in with Sex Pistols’ John Lydon in July at the Summercase Festival in Spain, taking it a step above Rotten to call the punk legend “the devil.”

The fight erupted after Okereke claimed a member of Lydon’s entourage instigated an “unprovoked racist attack.” Okereke walked away from the fight with facial bruising, cuts to his face and body and a split lip.

According to Bloc Party, Okereke approached Lydon to ask about a possible reformation of Public Image Ltd. Bloc Party then claimed that Lydon became “intimidating and aggressive” as his entourage went on a racist rant, including the phrase “Your problem is your black attitude.”

A fight then ensued and the incident was broken up by Festival security. Now time seems to have emboldened Okereke, who has come out as saying, “I have only one thing to say about that man — John Lydon is the devil in my eyes.” He told UK daily The Sun, “I really wanted to, like, whip his face off. I was lucky I had lots of people around me who were calming me down.”

Lydon has denied the accusations, calling Okereke a liar and even suggesting that the fight might have been a result of jealousy.
