In 2001, Crowded House front man Neil Finn proved you don’t have to use the word “Aid” in the title of your concert to raise money for a good cause. Now, seven years after his original “7 Worlds Collide” shows and subsequent album, he’s setting out to do it again with friends from Radiohead, The Smiths, Modest Mouse, Wilco and tons more.

Like the first, the second “7 Worlds Collide” project raises money for OxFam International, which works to end poverty and injustice worldwide. The album will feature several members of the original line-up, including Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien and Phil Selway, Johnny Marr of The Smiths and Modest Mouse, Soul Coughing bassist Sebastian Steinberg, songwriter and violinist Lisa Germano and Neil Finn’s son Liam Finn. New to the project are Jeff Tweedy, John Stirrat, Glenn Kotche and Pat Sansone of Wilco, and New Zealand songwriters Bic Runga and Don McGlashan, with more to be added in the coming weeks.

The album will be recorded in the next few months at Roundhead Studios in Aukland, New Zealand, and is due for release in 2009. The album will also be supported by a series of concerts featuring some of the contributing artists, which will also take place in Aukland in early 2009. Details will be announced through OxFam soon.

The title of the project and album comes from a Crowded House lyric from the song “Distant Sun”: “Seven worlds will collide/whenever I am by your side.”
