All Tomorrow’s Parties New York Changes 2009 Dates, Announces First Bands

After their first wildly successful fest on the east coast in September, the fine people at All Tomorrow’s Parties are set to make the magic happen again at the kitschy Kutshers Country Club in Monticello, New York, in September 2009. Early bird tickets went on sale today.

ATP has been putting together one-of-a-kind music festival experiences in the UK for almost ten years, and the inaugural New York event this fall was just that — only 3,000 three-day passes were available, and all the fans stayed on the site for the weekend in hotels and motels — and featured bands from My Bloody Valentine to Mogwai to The Drones.

The ATP organizers announced today the first few performers set to play 2009’s festival, including Suicide (playing their 1977 self-titled album), and Dirty Three (doing 1998’s Ocean Songs) as part of Friday’s Don’t Look Back series. Comedian David Cross will perform Friday, as well, with Saturday featuring Animal Collective with Panda Bear, Atlas Sound and Antipop Consortium.

Of course, a host of other bands will be playing the weekend, including a selection to be specially picked by another (as yet unnamed) celebrity band curator, as My Bloody Valentine did for this year’s festivities.

Early bird sales are on now, with one important piece of information to note before marking your calendar — the dates for the 2009 festival will not be September 4-6, as previously announced. Instead the fest will be Friday through Sunday, September 11 – 13. ATP also has two UK weekends planned for May 2009, the second of which (held in Minehead, in southwest England) will be curated by The Breeders and features Throwing Muses, Bon Iver and Deerhunter, among others. And if you feel like going down under for some good music, check out the line-up for the first ATP Australia festival, which will include events in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, all curated by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Tickets for the Aussie event are also on sale now.
