Sam Beam To Work His Magic On Next Rosie Thomas Album

In the midst of a tour supporting her adorably indie tribute to the holidays, A Very Rosie Christmas, Seattle singer Rosie Thomas told Billboard.com today that her next album will be produced by friend Sam Beam, better known to most as Iron and Wine.

Thomas has written a few things already for the new album, but says she’ll really focus on the project in the new year. The follow up to 2006’s These Friends of Mine, Thomas says this album will have “a more soul-filled feeling” at the encouragement of Beam.

We’ve been talking about doing it for a year. I think it’s going to be different because we write different kinds of things. I’m just going to come up with a bunch of songs, and when I like them I’m going to give them to him and he’s going to start putting them together musically.

(Sam Beam) was really pushing me for years; ‘I want you to write that Motown record you’ve always wanted to write. I just start laughing, ’cause it’s like, ‘Sam, look at you. You have a beard. How can I go to you to write this kind of stuff?’ But I know he has it in him. It’ll be fun, regardless.

Thomas’s Christmas dates continue through Dec. 14, and feature an opening set by her comic alter ego, Sheila Saputo.
