Sex Pistols Bassist Implies New Album In 2009

It seems the more bands reunite, well, the more bands reunite. Glenn Matlock, bassist for The Sex Pistols, told The Quietus this week that while the rumors about the band recording this summer were just that, he wouldn’t rule out getting the gang back together in 2009.

NME then reported today that The Sex Pistols would consider recording in 2009, but at this stage the only thing Matlock is saying concretely is that the band will meet again in the coming months and see how things go.

“The Sex Pistols? We’ve done our bit this year,” Matlock said. “We’ll meet again in the new year and see what we want to do. …We’re not recording a new album — I think that journalists are making it up, but you can never say never.”

Matlock talked in the interview about his experiences judging The Global Battle of the Bands, or GBOB, the finale of which took place last night in London. “Life has moved on,” Matlock said. “John [Lydon] has judged a battle of the bands thing in America — doing this is part of life’s rich pageant and I like to encourage young kids.”

Awww, sweet and charitable legendary punk rockers. “Life’s rich pageant.” Gives us the warm fuzzies. Or the heebie jeebies, we’re not entirely sure. But back to 2009 — Matlock had this to say about a possible new Sex Pistols record:

We all got ideas between us. It’s a double-edged sword if you do it not as good as the original, and if you don’t do it people want to know why — but it’s up to us. We are the masters of our own destiny.
