Kristen Stewart To Portray Joan Jett In Runaways Biopic

Twilight star and jealous target of thousands of teenage girls world-wide, Kristen Stewart, has been selected by director Floria Sigismondi to portray Joan Jett in a planned rock ‘n’ roll biopic about Jett’s first band The Runaways.

According to multiple sources (we’ll say Hollywood Reporter for this one), the film will revolve around Jett and singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and follow them from the band’s meteoric rise as teenagers to their dissolution and disillusionment.

The movie is eyeing a 2009 start and will work around Stewart’s commitments to the two “Twilight” sequels. The first one, “New Moon,” is expected to shoot sometime in first-quarter 2009, with Stewart reprising her role as Bella, the human who falls for a vampire. Sigismondi, who despite already being an acclaimed music video director (The White Stripes, the Cure, Interpol, Sigur Rós, Christina Aguilera), will be making her feature film debut, while Jett herself is serving as executive producer.
