SXSW 2008 Wristband Information

Okay music lovers who are planning on rocking SXSW this year, and you have questions about picking up a wristband, we’ve got the scoop. The entire process of snagging a coveted wristband has changed, now completely based online through an interesting lottery system.

Our buddies at Austinist are reporting that this will help keep scalpers and non-Austin residents from purchasing wristbands, keeping them strictly for area residents as they were intended. There is a four-day signup period, beginning on February 21. After the signup has concluded, SXSW will notify “winners” of the wristbands, which will cost $139 a pop plus taxes and service charges.

This year they will be checking to make sure credit cards used to purchase the wristbands match up with an Austin billing address, so out of towners had better make some friends. Each winner can purchase two wristbands total, and names for both wristbands must be placed at the time of the online order.

Yup, it is complicated, and for our out of town friends, you just might have to pony up for those pricey badges this year.
