Richard Hawley To Appear On New Elbow Album

An interesting tidbit popped up about Elbow’s upcoming new album, The Seldom Seen Kid. No, we still don’t know of any US release information, so for now we’re all going to be stuck with purchasing the import. It will be well worth the price through, as Richard Hawley makes a guest appearance on one of the tracks.

Garvey and Hawley recently spoke with BBC’s 6 Music about the collaboration, which apparently stemmed from the trip back from a meeting in Tennessee. After playing a few rounds of travel Battleship, the two decided to write and record an “old fashioned kind of song, like a real story.” The results appear on the track “The Fix.”

About the song, Garvey explained: “The Fix is about two fellows who fixed a horse race in every way possible; they’ve drugged the horse, they’ve bribed the stewards, and they’ve fixed to win, and they’re talking about how they’re going to spend their money.”

Keeping it old school, the two decided to even record the track in a classic way. He added: “We recorded the vocal facing each other like Frank and Deano might have, years ago.”

Get ready to purchase those imports when The Seldom Seen Kid is released in the UK on March 17 via Fiction.
