When glancing over the tracklisting for The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s upcoming thirteenth full-length album, My Bloody Underground, we are once again reminded as to how frontman Anton Newcombe holds absolutely nothing back. He has no five-second delay built in to his brain, which is apparent when seeing song titles such as “Bring Me The Head Of Paul McCartney On Heather Mill’s Wooden Peg (Dropping Bombs On The White House).” Damn.
The new album will be released on Newcombe’s own label, a recordings, on April 15. The tunes were inspired by his time writing and recording in various locations, including Liverpool, England and Reykjavik, Iceland. The results are a CD jam-packed with seventy-five minutes of music, which are completely self-produced. One song title that falls into the realm of controversial is “We Are The Niggers Of The World,” a track that he apparently wrote at the age of nine years old. Most kids at nine have other things on their mind, and I’d assume have no knowledge of the “n word” at that point either, but then again, very few people are like Newcombe.
A series of videos, filmed by Newcombe, accompany every song on My Bloody Underground. The visuals include Bunsen burned dolls to being tattooed on the inside of his lip.
