After plenty of rumors have bounced around over the past week, it is officially going to happen. Eric Avery, a founding member of the one and only Jane’s Addiction, will be rejoining the band for one night only at the upcoming US NME Awards. Although we’re still trying to figure out exactly why the US needed our very own version of the NME Awards, this reunion will most definitely be amazing.
Jane’s Addiction will be given the Godlike Genius Award at the ceremony, which is taking place at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on April 23. They will be joining the ranks of bands such as The Clash, New Order, Primal Scream and Manic Street Preachers, who have all previous received this honor. To commemorate the event, the band will be performing for one night only, making the first time Avery has taken stage as a member of Jane’s Addiction since 1991.
This isn’t the first time that Avery has been asked to reunite with the band, but up until now he has turned down the offer each and every time. As to why he continuously said no, Avery said: “I’ve chosen to reject the prospects of reuniting in the past for personal and philosophical reasons. I have always considered reunions to be a way to make a quick buck, and it sells short my own experience of it the first time around. The reason I started to even consider this is because it’s honoring the past instead of trying to recreate it.”
The timing couldn’t have been any more perfect, as Avery has also recently released his debut solo album, Help Wanted, which is out now via Dangerbird Records.
