Is Google The Answer For The Music Biz?

Yes, it is a well-known fact that many of the major players in the music biz are struggling to keep churning out profits. This week an interesting bit of news popped up that we’ve been keeping our eye on. It turns out that EMI has hired Google VP of Engineering Douglas Merrill to be the company’s new head of digital.

Several sites and blogs have been going bananas over this, which it most definitely understandable. Coolfer commented that it will be the “kind of culture clash that will be written about for years to come.” We couldn’t agree more, as watching a highly successful tech guy help put a gigantic record label corporation back on track should be quite fascinating. Will old school promo types be able to hug it out with next-generation media minds?
