When you have three outstanding bands on the same bill, including the legendary R.E.M., not even a rainstorm can dampen the spirits of concert goers. Our good friend Kelli McNamara was one of the brave souls who stood in the rain at Jones Beach to watch The National, Modest Mouse and R.E.M. perform on Saturday night. By the time Michael Stipe took the stage during the downpour, he said: “It’s like R.E.M. survivor 2008!” He also added: “All I can see is a sea of garbage bags,” referencing the cheap rain ponchos that were available for sale at the venue.

Fans lucked out and were treated to “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It,” a track that the band never plays anymore. The encore sounded like it must have been mind blowing, featuring “Fall On Me” with a guest appearance on guitar by the one and only Johnny Marr. Kelli took plenty of photos from throughout the evening, which you can enjoy in the gallery below.
