Thom Yorke Gets His Classical On

Following in the footsteps of his bandmate Jonny Greenwood, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke is dipping his toes into the world of classical music. He is joining musicians Simon Tong from The Verve/Blur/Gorillaz, John Maclean from the defunct Beta Band and Gabriel Prokofiev (grandson of the famous classical composer), who have all contributed tracks to a classical remix album.

According to The Guardian, the album is titled Cortical Songs, which is being released this month overseas on Nonclassical. The musicians on the album remixed an original score by musician/physicst John Matthias and sound designer/producer Nick Ryan. About this project, Prokofiev said: “This is a way of searching for new sounds and direction in music. Yorke’s remix in particular – the first he has ever done of a classical work – is really adventurous and avant garde.”
