Flashback Friday Video - Sonic Youth “Nevermind (What Was It Anyway)”

In case you missed it, last week we asked readers to help us locate - if there was one - an official video for the Placebo song “Sleeping With Ghosts”. See, we have this whole ghost theme going on until Halloween and we really wanted to use that song. Always on top of their game, many Tripwire readers were quick to reply that we were in fact stupid to think there would be a video for it when it wasn’t even an official single.

Actually, only one of you were that obnoxious. The rest of you, including a representative from Riverman Management - the company who manages Placebo - were polite while explaining “the band changed the name to ‘Soulmates’ for the live shows, but it was never a single, hence there being no promo video existing for it.” One Paul O’Mara was even nice enough to suggest some ghost songs to help us in our search, including such greats as “Ghost” by Neutral Milk Hotel and Sonic Youth’s “NYC Ghosts And Flowers”, both of which are officially video-less (as far as we can tell). Believe it or not, we found this to help aid our search and again, came up empty (although an official video for Kristin Hersh’s “Your Ghost” does exist).

Now, because we’re stubborn and intend to keep this theme thing running right until Halloween no matter how banal it gets, we’ve opened up the discussion to include not just ghost songs, but ghost-related songs. That includes just about anything you can make a case for if you present it to us the right way; although we really don’t want to run The Cranberries’ “Zombie” - it’s just too easy. So in honor of Mr. O’Mara, we are running the video for Sonic Youth’s “Nevermind (What Was It Anyway)”, which was the single (if you can call it that) from their 2000 release, NYC Ghosts & Flowers. If you would like to take a cue from Paul and help keep us from working too hard, please send us your worthy ghost-related video suggestions here, and until next week…
