Grateful Dead Announce First Tour In Five Years

If anybody knows that you’re never too old to rock’n'roll, it’s the remaining members of The Grateful Dead, and they’re proving it again this spring with their first tour in five years.

After two reunion gigs at benefits for President-elect Barack Obama, the guys thought the time was right to take it on the road. The tour kicks off April 12 in Greensboro, N.C., and features 16 dates billed as “An Evening With The Grateful Dead” until the tour’s close on May 10 in Mountain View, Calif. Ticket sales start January 13.

Original Dead members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart will be joined by keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and Allman Brothers Band/Gov’t Mule guitarist Warren Haynes.

Phil Lesh told Billboard.com that the excitement of a new tour is in the unknown. “For me, it’s the question mark that’s really pulling me in,” he said. “When you walk out on stage the possibilities are infinite every time.”

    Hey guys,

I grabbed tickets to the concert in Worcester on the 18th.. They sent me something about a Dead Threadz promotion.. I guess we get to design our own quilt piece and then they will put a huge quilt togeher and give it to the band. I’m trying to figure out what I should put on my piece.. any ideas?
I mean anyone can send them in, it seems pretty sweet.

    Betty
