Daft Punk Set To Score Tron Sequel

Daft Punk and Walt Disney Pictures sounds like a sacrilegeous pairing to us, but the French electronica duo is reportedly teaming up with Disney to create the soundtrack for TR2N (Tron 2.0), which is slated to hit the big screen in 2011.

Daft Punk hasn’t hit the studio since their release of 2005’s Human After All, but as first reported by Pitchfork, then confirmed by Billboard, the duo of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter are recording the score for the new movie in Los Angeles where they have set up a new studio. The original version of Tron from 1982 was scored by Wendy Carlos, an innovative electronic musician. Now Daft Punk will be following in Carols’ steps, and we’re sure the Digital Love will be perfect for the sequel.

TR2N does not mark Daft Punk’s first stint in film. The group directed their own robot film Electroma, which was shown in 2006 as part of the Cannes Film Festival, but surprisingly the group did not use their own music as the soundtrack.

“The cool thing is that we’re always trying to do something that hasn’t been done, or ultimately, that we aren’t doing ourselves yet,” Bangalater told Billboard. “It is challenging to get back in the studio and work with ideas we haven’t expressed before. Some ideas take time, but some just take a few weeks, so we’ll see.”
