Daft Punk Score French Film Premiering At Cannes Festival

Thomas Bangalter — perhaps better known to you as the recently de-helmeted member of Daft Punk — has once again put his powers of composition to work on a film for French-Argentine filmmaker Gaspar Noé. The film, Enter The Void, will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival May 22.

Bangalter has worked with Noé previously, scoring his film Irreversible in 2002. A soundtrack album was later released feauturing Bangalter’s tracks from the score as well as material by Gustav Mahler, Beethoven and Étienne Daho that were also featured in the film.

Here’s the scoop on Enter The Void:

Oscar and his sister Linda are recent arrivals in Tokyo. Oscar’s a small time drug dealer, and Linda works as a nightclub stripper. One night, Oscar is caught up in a police bust and shot. As he lies dying, his spirit, faithful to the promise he made his sister that he would never abandon her – refuses to abandon the world of the living. It wanders through the city, his visions growing evermore distorted, evermore nightmarish. Past, present and future merge in a hallucinatory maelstrom.

Daft Punk won’t stop there — they’ll also be working on the score for Tron 2, which should be released in 2011.
