Apparently Evan Dando is pissed that those spam ads explaining “how to get your hands on Obama’s bailout dollars” didn’t pan out. He’s claiming that this GM commercial too closely resembles The Lemonheads’ song “It’s a Shame About Ray” and is demanding a slice of GM’s subsidized pie in exchange.
Apologies, Dando, but I’m not hearing it so much – you’re suing GM for using a simple chord progression and about 4 notes that resemble your melody? How about Peter Bjorn and John jump on board too for GM’s use of whistling in the commercial? Easy bucks, dudes!

Hey, It’s a shame about Ray and all that….but you can’t own the chords to “Louie Louie” fer’ chris’ sake !! If you want to see copyright infringement, check out the USHER, FANTASIA, FRANKIE J, JERMAINE DUPRI et al copyright infringement suit going on right now in LOS ANGELES FEDERAL DISTRICT COURT. Plaintiff’s name is Ernest Straughter….some “shameless rips”….in ALL 3 infringing songs !!!!
