We’ve been slow to get a story up on Chris Knox this week and that’s not going to cut it. The founder of Flying Nun records and New Zealand punk titan suffered a stroke last Thursday and spent the weekend in an Auckland hospital. Response within the web-o-sphere has been resoundingly cool and first thing this morning, Memphis garage beast Jay Reatard wrote up a nice tribute on his blog. According to an update on Knox’ blog today, the Tall Dwarfs and Toy Love frontman is in stable condition.

Thanks for posting this, but to clarify, Chris Knox was not “the founder of Flying Nun Records.” That was Roger Shepherd. Chris was, however, a prime mover in the early days of Flying Nun, not only as a musician, with his band, Tall Dwarfs, but also as a producer and engineer (often with Doug Hood) on numerous early recordings, including those by The Chills, The Verlaines, and, I think, The Clean.
