Have you seen these new TV shows where a guy just stands in front of the camera and plays YouTube videos? It’s totally bizarre that amateurish home videos, blogs and people’s stupid Tweets are starting to dominate traditional, high-quality media. But what’s most offensive about it all is that none of these TV hosts possess an ounce of Bob Saget’s panache.
Fiery Furnaces and WNYC are taking a shot at doing it right by getting all grassroots with a make your own music video contest. With an August 31st deadline and the guideline “no wholesale rip-offs”, all you self-proclaimed directors and unemployed desktop potatoes now have something better to do than play online backgammon.
Oh, and Fiery Furnaces’ new album, I’m Going Away, comes out tomorrow, July 21nd, on Thrill Jockey.
