The Rentals’ Songs About Time

We bet Matt Sharp’s got a PS3 and an XBox. Come to think of it, if the former Weezer bassist’s new project with his band The Rentals is any indication, he’s probably got a Wii, too, because Songs About Time is an effort to create art over a multi-platform canvas. BAM!

Sharp has gathered together a multitude of friends from across the artistic spectrum in an effort to completely document Time with regards to their specific medium. In their own words, the project deals with “Photographs about days, films about weeks and songs about time.” It is a work that when done will be 365 days worth of coverage, with a roll of film taken each day, a short black and white film released each Tuesday and three accompanying EPs released every three months. The Chapters One & Two EPs (The Story Of A Thousand Seasons Past and It’s Time To Come Home, respectively) cover a large amount of ground across the musical spectrum on their own; the first chapter more poppy, the second more moody and synthesized. The third chapter is set to be released in October, while the photos arrive daily and the short films roll out every Tuesday. Time to get caught up! BAM!
