Betty Davis Returns

Watch out, world: the queen of badass funk is coming back to lay claim to your eardrums. Betty Davis, legendary funkstress and performer extraordinaire, will re-emerge at record stores this fall, reminding you of her absolute prowess. Seattle-based label Light in the Attic plans to release Davis’ rare, unreleased Is It Love or Desire and her classic third album, Nasty Gal, on October 6. Nasty Gal, the intimately self-referential album that showcased Davis at her absolute baddest and most sexualized, has frequently been praised as one of Davis’ finest efforts; Is It Love or Desire was cut after Nasty Gal and shelved by Davis’ label over “creative differences.” The new releases will feature tons of rare photographs, album artwork, lyrics, and interviews, with liner notes by Oliver Wang (for Is It Love) and John Ballon (Nasty Gal). Suddenly, fall is looking much brighter. And funkier.
