The Verve Split, Again

For the third time since their formation in 1990, The Verve are splitting. Rumor has it that guitarist Nick McCabe and bassist Simon Jones are giving frontdude Richard Ashcroft the silent treatment. “The Verve seem to be on holiday,” McCabe MySpaced in April. Yeah, a permanent holiday. A source close to The Verve said that “as far as Nick and Simon are concerned the Verve no longer exists.” It seems that this time, unlike the last times, it’s for real. McCabe and Jones, in tandem with Davide Rossi and Mig Shillace from Goldfrapp, are now the band The Black Ships. That band is in the process of recording their debut album from which we can expect “krautrock-style excursions,” according to McCabe.
