Though I’ve been a Meet the Press kind of guy since three or four, there’s always been something alluring about CBS’ Sunday Morning strangely relaxed vibe. Everything and everyone sounds like drinking chamomile tea feels. Wilco’s grizzled frontdude Jeff Tweedy was the centerpiece of an especially well-done feature on the aging/nascent band over the weekend, CBS even capturing a father-son jam session at Tweedy’s home in suburban Chicago. Watch the above video, get jealous.

Totally agree with your observation about the peculiar tone of that show. It’s almost hypnotic. And I watch almost every week. The Wilco feature was pleasant and welcome but, I felt, not terribly well-done, in small ways (pretty sure Jeff Tweedy and family live in Old Irving, which is a city neighborhood, not part of “suburban Chicago”) and bigger (the whole theme of Wilco’s being “unknown” was silly — I mean, compared with what, Hannah Montana?). The reporter seemed pretty out of touch.

Thanks for posting that. I forgot to set the DVR that morning. I think Wilco still are unknown to most people, and are probably unknown to the viewers of CBS Sunday Morning. When I lived in Chicago, everyone I knew knew Wilco. However, now that I’m a teacher in Memphis, I would bet that none of my high school students know who Wilco is. I would also bet that none of my 90 coworkers know either. It’s unfortunate.
