Anybody with their head on straight knows that Creeper Lagoon is one of the premier indie pop groups out there. Their new release, Take Back the Universe and Give Me Yesterday (out 4/17), has been a long time coming and had some of us worried that big label expectations ó they left Ideal for Dreamworks Records after 1997’s critically lauded I Become Small and Go – were just too much for the guys.
But never fear! The California band has come back and made a nearly perfect pop record from start to finish. The subject matter remains the same, and not really groundbreaking ó drugs, lost love, getting your shit together ó but the music keeps getting better. The new single out, “Wrecking Ball,” is a good indication of how most of the album sounds Ö which is to say, really really good.
