Blowback

Tricky
Blowback

Hollywood

Implementing the nifty Blowback album title with the appropriate album cover photo of two cats inhaling the ganja smoke is quite possibly the best thing about this record. For some reason Tricky decided to explore the UK rasta / ska sound to no avail, as the vibe and the style completely deteriorates the hyper drum n bass revolution that the man helped define. Special guests include Anthony Kiedis, Flea, and John Fruscante which adds some spice to this boring and redundant pot of despair. Excess, the albumís opener, is as bad of a tease as a high school “blue ball date” as it captures Trickyís trademark dark and dirty noise (Maxinquaye, Angels with Dirty Faces) but the rest of the album is as stale as two day old bread. Save your money for something else.
