We are happy to hear the reunion sounds of the beloved Cap’n Jazz (sans Davey), but are we happy with what they have created? Tim Kinsella(s) is the typical pompous art fool who creates music people think is either a bad joke or complete genius. We keep listening to the Owls and we don’t know if we like it. The poetry is commendable, Steve Albini produced the 8 track disc in his Electrical Audio studios, and the melodies are gorgeous. It’s a confusing thing to have a favorite band reform years later and record something completely different. Are we let down? A little bit maybe. Do we like the music? Yes. It’s a double edged sword which you should pick up and try out. Moderate art rock, with country plucking guitar sounds, and screeching nasal vocals. We like it so much we can’t listen to it ever again…except when no one is around.
