Wilco delivered the completed Yankee Hotel Foxtrot to Reprise in June of 2001 only to have it rejected by the label. When the band refused to make changes to the record, the two sides negotiated Wilcoís departure. While the Chicago-based band shopped the record to other labels, they streamed the album, in its entirety, from their website for their legions of loyal fans to hear and enjoy. Wilco and the self-produced Yankee Hotel Foxtrot have now found a happy home at Nonesuch, and this long awaited treasure will finally see the light of day on April 23 via the eclectic indie label. The album combines the deeply passionate and introspective lyrics of common alt-country, a genre that Wilco helped to define years ago, with the musical experimentation and artistic fervor of bands like Radiohead or Sigu Ros. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is a complete album. From start to finish, it keeps me interested, excited and appreciative of the incredible amount of time and energy Wilco spent in order to create this complex, textured and emotional piece of work.
