Denali are a striking quartet from Virginia, which we all know is the state for lovers, hence the luxuriously romantic sound captured on the bandís self-titled debut. Singer Maura Davisí glorious harmonies act as a tranquil rudder on this melancholy ship, which gently sails down a dreamy sea of disarming guitars. Sparklehorse took pride in making this record, as guitarist Alan Weatherhead engineered it and singer Mark Linkous performed on one track and produced two others. Denali fit together the best pieces of their favorite records (The Cure, Radiohead, Air) to complete their own original somber rock puzzle.
