Dropping the third single from their pending debut release, the ¸bercool Icelandic quintet Leaves are cranking up the songwriting machine again on “Catch.” More in your face than predecessor “Race,” the track effortlessly blends elements of Radiohead with orchestration and singer Arnar Gudjonsson’s Ian McCulloch-esque vocals. This soccer-playing (remember from last time? They are all on the same Third Division soccer team in Reykjavik, with the frontman also leading the league in scoring. There’s a quiz next week.) band of brothers has shown the knack for writing both spacy shoegazing tunes and straight ahead epic rock numbers with equal aplomb. One only wonders what the soon-to-be-launched debut has in store. I await it with bated breath…
