You may remember these Irish kids from their first appearance on Player .013, way back in 2000 (although some of you may have been programming college radio or exercising stock options all that time ago). They have returned to the limelight with the release of their sophomore album, My Medicine, and it’s a stormer. Wilt makes power-pop that sets up camp in your brain, the kind of songs that are stuck in your head when you wake up in the middle of the night. On the single, “Distortion,” the Foo Fighters influence is still evident, but now it’s blended with an almost equal part of Bob Mould’s excellent ’90s trio, Sugar. Other standout tracks like “Take Me Home” also feature angrily swarming guitars fused with frontman Cormac Battle’s Mould-meets-Michael Stipe vocals, while the title track brings the tempo down a notch, without affecting the passion within. On My Medicine, Wilt manage to provide the soundtrack to this moment, the here and now.
