Fresh off his revelations of past heroin and crack cocaine abuses, Brett Anderson and Suede return to the fray with their first material since 1999’s primarily disappointing Head Music. Featuring a new keyboard player, the band head out into 2002 and kick off their attempt to regain their past glories with “Positivity.” The song sounds exactly like latter day Suede, Richard Oakes swirling guitar sound of 1996’s Coming Up replaced by poppier arrangements including strings and harpsicord-esque keyboard lines. “Positivity” is a very British pop-song, all sweeping strings and Anderson’s distinctive croon. Not the tour de force return to form I’d hoped for, but definitely reason for optimism about their new album, A New Morning.
