Serjical Strike/Columbia

Serart is a collaborative effort between Arto Tuncboyaciyan (tunk-boy-a-jian) and Serj Tankian, front man for multi-platinum n¸ metal rockers System Of A Down. Avant-garde folk multi-instrumentalist Arto Tuncboyaciyan has appeared on more than 200 records in Europe and also lent his percussion to Systemís smash album Toxicity. Serart is the first release on Serj’s own Serjical Strike Records, a label seeking to offer a home for bold, new original music. The album is exactly that – bold, new, and original. Serart is not at all similar to a SOAD album – it is, in fact, a departure from SOAD’s progressive-metal barrage. The album appeals to those who are able to open their minds to new and interesting sounds and finds these two, seemingly disparate, creative artists joining for a new vision. “Facing The Plastic,” as well as the rest of the album, combines an exotic and eclectic blend of poetry, electronica, Middle Eastern melodies, and Pan-African rhythms to create something unlike anything you’ve ever heard before. It’s definitely something that will take some time to wrap your brain around, but once you “get it” (and you will), youíll be hooked.
