Culling influences as diverse as Yaz and the holy Mancunian triumvirate of The Stone Roses, The Smiths and Joy Division, upstate New Yorkers Elkland are painting a wide swath with their guitar-inflected electro-pop. You may remember their shimmering single ìEverybodyís Movingî from Player .043. The quartet have dropped the Her EP and have kindly included this bouncy pop gem, as well as four other mouth-watering nuggets. EP opener ìMoving Cars,î has Elkland wearing their Yaz influence on their sleeves, sounding like a modern day Red Flag or Cause & Effect. Other standouts include the Depeche Mode-y ìNight Cranesî and EP send off, ìAbandoned,î the spacy synths serving to lay a foundation upon which to showcase frontman Jon Pierceís vocal strength. This unsigned packet of delight is actually playing a gig in LA at Spaceland on Monday, September 22, so high tail it down there to get your hands on the freshest 2003 take on 1984 electrifying electro-pop.
