Poptones

Not every day you come across a release named after Chinese historical events, but so it is with The Boxer Rebellion. This American/Anglo/Austrialian quartet have just released their debut single, ìWatermelon,î for ex-Creation Records founder Alan McGeeís newest label, the recently revamped Poptones, and itís quite an audacious first offering. Hints of Puressence, BRMC, Cooper Temple Clause, and The Chameleons can be heard in ìWatermelon,î but this is different than any of those bands. Rumbling bass shakes your at your very foundation, while frontman Nathan Nicholsonís incredible vocal range takes your mind ever-higher. Part psychedelia, part driving rock and part atmospheric headtrips, The Boxer Rebellion rely on the power of the six-string and Nicholsonís honey-throated tones to get their point across. Point taken.
