Rock N Roll

Lost Highway

One of the most prolific songwriters of the past decade, Ryan Adams is destined for greatness. From his early beginnings in the band Whiskytown, to his solo work on the albums Heartbreaker, Gold, and Demolition, Adams has consistently released introspective, thoughtful, and just plain good ìalt-countryî music. Hints of his passion for straight up rock music and his punk rock roots displayed themselves on his previous records, but Rock N Roll finds Adams trading in his old acoustic guitar for an electric, and his country influences have taken a back seat to childhood favorites like The Smiths and U2. The album showcases Adamsí truly creative and skilled guitar work, as well as his uncanny knack for crafting songs. With Rock N Roll, Adams has gone from cult icon alt-country troubadour to full-fledged rock star. Featuring guest spots from Melissa Auf Der Maur, Billie Joe Armstrong, and Parker Posey, the album has 13 tracks of pure rock delight; however, there are a total of 14 tracks. The title track, ìRock N Roll,î is interestingly enough the only one that doesnít rock. Instead, itís a slow piano ballad, with Adams singing, ìEverybodyís cool playing rock & roll, I donít feel cool, feel cool at all.î Well he should. Because Rock N Roll might just be his best album yet and itís definitely the one that is going to make him a household name.
