Daylight Breaking

Vagrant

After a two-year hiatus, No Motiv has returned from the great beyond. Gone is drummer Pat Pedraza, replaced by the bandís bassist, Roger Camero, while the four-string duties are now held down by longtime band friend (and tour manager) Jeff Hershey. Have the changes altered the trademark riff-heavy sound of the Oxnard quartet on their third album, Daylight Breaking? Not in the least. As is evidenced in the lead single, ìInto The Darknessî (as heard on Player .048), if anything, No Motiv are on the upswing. A searing hook and a sing-along chorus serve to drive the song deep into your brain upon the first listen. And once this tune gets its hooks into you, it doesnít give up easily. Tunes abound on Daylight, from the launch track ìIndependence Dayî through closer ìLife Goes On,î and just about everywhere in between. Will this be the record that makes the kids stand up and take notice? Will they shake the shackles of doing what MTV tells them and support an album on its merit, instead of what theyíre bashed over the head with by the so-called bastion of cool? The clockís ticking…
