Seven years in the making (sort of), the Mayor of Mope, the Duke of Depression, the Lieutenant General of Lyrical Genius, Morrissey is back with You Are The Quarry. Inked to the newly-rescuscitated (just for the man himself) Attack Records through Sanctuary, the album already spawned the US & UK Top-5 single ìIrish Blood, English Heart.î Musically, the material falls in line somewhere between 1993ís Vauxhall & I and 1997ís Maladjusted, but with an edge previously unseen, thanks to Jerry Finn (Blink 182, A.F.I.). However, his biting wit has returned with a fire not seen in ages. ìAmerica Is Not The World,î ìI Have Forgiven Jesus,î ìThe World Is Full Of Crashing Bores,î ìHow Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel,î and of course, ìIrish Bloodî are all full of scathing fury, delivered as only the former Smiths frontman can. ìFirst Of The Gang To Dieî is classic, uptempo Mozz and most likely to be the favorite track on the album for Morrissey fanatics. But with a surprising return to form like You Are The Quarry, reminding all of the greatness that is Steven Patrick Morrissey, is it possible to be anything but fanatic?
