Flying Nun

Ahhh, the heady days of 1992. Anyone who reads my pithy blitherings knows that in my musical mind, itís always 1992. How perfect for me, then, that Flying Nun has issued a Bailterspace retrospective. The one-time flagship band of the label, Bailterspace were THE band in New Zealand shoegaze at the time the scene was big in the UK. If Ride, My Bloody Valentine, Chapterhouse, Moose, and Slowdive are amongst your favorites and you donít know Bailterspace, itís time to find out. Bailterspace culls tracks from all six Bailterspace full lengths, as well as the rare Amphetamine Reptile 7î track, ìGlimmerDot,î ending up with 18 remastered tracks for your enjoyment. Shimmering guitars, rich textures, everywhere-at-the-same-time percussion, and sonic layering are all part of the Bailterspace masterplan, and tracks like ìShine,î ìDarkBlue,î ìCapsul,î and ìTankerî showcase this to full effect. The record is currently only available as a New Zealand import, but sometimes, as we all know, the best things require a little work.
